Supporting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Sinai Health

Why 110 km?

This year we are raising the bar for our 5th annual event to hike 110 km with a goal to raise $30,000.

We are hiking 110 km to represent some of the length of stays families can have in the NICU. Families like Landen's, who stayed in the NICU for 110 days. Today, Landen is a happy and healthy toddler and his family is grateful for the care they received from the NICU team during their lengthy stay.

110 days in the NICU. Read more about Landen's story here.

What does this year's hike support?

Funds raised will go towards supporting the purchase of new ultrasound machines in our Women & Infants Health Program. Sinai Health has a current need to replace 22 ultrasounds in the Centre for Excellence in Obstetrical Ultrasound and the Speciality Pregnancy Program.

Each year, the Frances Bloomberg Centre for Women’s and Infants’ Health welcomes over 7,000 babies into the world. Specialists provide leading-edge fertility support for aspiring parents, as well as comprehensive care for patients faced with any pregnancy complication.  This specialized area of care includes:

    • Delivering life-saving treatments for babies still in the womb, such as fixing birth defects like spina bifida before babies are born, in the Ontario Fetal Centre
    • Supporting 1,200 of Canada’s smallest and most fragile babies annually in the country’s largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
    • Navigating treatment for pregnant patients with complex health needs, such as cancer or heart issues
State-of-the-art imaging is critically important to this specialized care, enabling our specialists to closely monitor babies’ development – and to intervene with cutting-edge treatment when needed.

By helping renew the hospital’s ultrasound fleet, we will enable Sinai Health to deliver life-saving care for thousands of pregnant patients and their babies each year.
