6TH ANNUAL MALIYAH'S HIKE
November 15, 2025

OUR STORY

Maliyah Abigail Riches was born on July 8th, 2020. From minute one, the incredible team at Mount Sinai – NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) leaped into action as Maliyah began her road of unfortunate complications. After two weeks of round-the-clock intensive care from Mount Sinai’s NICU team, Maliyah was healthy and robust enough to come home.

Being #bornsickisntfair. We hike to help fund the life changing work done by the nurses, doctors, and admin team at Mount Sinai Hospital. They saved our family and will continue to save others who visit Mount Sinai’s NICU on the 17th floor.

THE HIKE

We will be hiking 126 km which amounts to two back to back marathons to raise awareness and critical funds. Our goal is to raise $30,000. Funds raised will go to the Rogers Hixon Ontario Human Milk Bank, which dispenses donor milk to hospitals across Ontario and Atlantic Canada. Breastmilk provides protective, immune-boosting properties as well as nutrition to help vulnerable preemies grow bigger and stronger.

Unfortunately, some birth parents are unable to breastfeed or provide a full milk supply for their baby due to delayed milk production, separation when babies are transported to a high-acuity NICU in a distant hospital or medical issues. Proceeds from the hike will support the milk bank’s pilot outpatient milk project, which makes donor milk directly available to NICU families in need during the special transitional weeks after their baby is discharged home. Together with your support, we will help elevate care and improve outcomes for NICU grads and their families across the region.
