The Ruth Pearl Kraitberg Memorial Fund is in loving memory of our beloved wife, mother and "Grandy." Ruth was diagnosed with CREST syndrome (limited scleroderma) in her mid-fifties, but remained a positive and inspirational presence, never letting her disease define her for over thirty years. CREST syndrome is a rare progressive autoimmune disease that affects connective tissues in the body and hardens the skin. With stoic strength and noble humility, Ruth's determination to remain strong for those around her served as a beacon throughout the progression of an otherwise debilitating disease. For many years, Ruth was a patient at the Scleroderma Program Centre at Mount Sinai Hospital where she received caring and compassionate care from Dr. Ahmad, Dr. Lee and countless others. The funds raised in Ruth's memory will help support the scleroderma research, education and awareness for countless other individuals and families affected by this disease.
Ruth's middle name "Pearl" appropriately describes her unique blend of classic charm and inner wisdom. She was a rare gem in more than just name whose strong and steadfast spirit was capable of weathering life's storms.
