In loving memory of Addie Lam

By Jason Lam

Addie's 3rd Birthday

Our little Addie came into the world on June 22, 2020, a mere 27 weeks into the chaotic global pandemic. The memories of that day are hazy. Amy had intense pains, leading us to rush to Toronto East hospital. After examination, we were swiftly transferred to Mount Sinai, known for their top-notch NICU equipped for early births like Addie's.

Addie was unbelievably tiny, weighing only 850g. She fit snugly in our palms, connected to countless wires and tubes. Each day was a heart-wrenching rollercoaster, unsure if she'd pull through.

But Addie proved to be a little warrior. After six challenging months, she triumphantly graduated from the NICU, just in time for a Christmas at home. With COVID restrictions, only one parent could be with her, and we shuttled between the hospital and home daily, now a blurry but exhausting memory.

Witnessing her overcome countless hurdles, she finally shed the wires and tubes, although she still relied on a g-tube for feeding. We're forever grateful to the doctors and nurses who kept us informed, providing unwavering care and support.

Today would have been Addie's 3rd birthday, her first outside the grip of COVID. We envisioned a joyful celebration at the carousel by our house, surrounded by loved ones. She was growing more aware of the world and would have reveled in the excitement of unwrapping gifts, just like any toddler.

Instead of presents she would have received, we kindly ask you to consider donating to Mount Sinai NICU. Your generosity will give other babies a fighting chance at survival, ensuring their families experience the same joy and hope we had.

We want Addie's life to leave a positive mark on the world. Thank you for your support.
