25 Weeks to 25 Years

On November 30, 2000, I was born at 25 weeks and 5 days at Mount Sinai, weighing 1 pound, 11 ounces. The Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) was my home for 106 days, where I received excellent care from doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals. 

Friends and family continue to support the NICU. Please help other families, so they, too, can bring their preemies home.

Thank you to all our incredible donors who gave to the 25 weeks to 25 year fundraiser. Your contributions to Mount Sinai's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit well surpass $3,000. With your support, families and preemies receive much-needed care. Thank you for making this 25th birthday a very special one.

My dad would keep track of my weight over the first few months of my life. While I was born at 1 pound and 11 ounces, my smallest was 1 pound 2 ounces. The dip caused quite the scare and thanks to a blood transfusion from my dad, my weight stabilized. 

One Day Old

This is the very first photograph of baby me. At just one day old, the photo highlights the intricacies of preemie life. All the tubes and wires helped keep me alive. One marker of hope for my mom was the muscle definition in my legs. 

Half Way Check Point

In honour of reaching over 50% of the donation goal, the photo below shows just how small a preemie truly is. For the first few months, I was on a CPAP machine. Once my lungs developed, I pulled the machine out of my nose and drew my first breath.

In 2024, I graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University, where I studied History and Communications. Currently, I am in my second year of my master's degree at the University of Toronto.
