Our story
We are choosing to support the Mount Sinai NICU because they went above and beyond to ensure our son, Ronan, was surrounded by comfort and love during his short time with us.
Ronan was born at 28 weeks after Jenny developed a severe septic Strep A infection. He fought so hard to stay with us, but the complications surrounding his birth were too great to overcome. The statistics for mothers and babies facing septic Strep A infection are devastating—only about half of mothers survive, and the vast majority of babies do not.
We are forever grateful to Mount Sinai for saving Jenny’s life and for the extraordinary care they gave to Ronan. Our hope is that by supporting the Mount Sinai NICU, other families facing similar circumstances will have a different outcome—the chance to bring their baby home. If these funds can help even one family avoid the loss of a child, there would be no greater legacy for our son.
In 2025, we were given another reason to be grateful for the Sinai NICU team. Our son, Tristan Phoenix Keyes, was born at 33 weeks and spent his first six days in their care. From the beginning, it was clear his story would be different from Ronan’s. Instead of difficult conversations, we were met with encouragement and reassurance: Tristan would go home—he just needed time to grow and learn to eat on his own.
What remained the same was the unwavering compassion, dedication, and love shown by the NICU team. We will never forget the role they played in both of our sons’ stories.
